I tried to implement the same then got it cleared. Yes, If Liskov principle is not applied then there is problem in our inheritence.

I still don't understand how the function will work after introducing the Shape class

edit: I think the function accepts a Shape object and the Square class will throw an NotImplementedException when implementing setwidth/setheight

Though it's a principle, not a law. More often than not you are violating it. If not you are violating other principle.

Example you now have a shape class, but shapes also includes circles and triangles.
