SUZI QUATRO Candy Man

Показать описание
Found on her 1982 long player 'Main Attraction' is this wonderful morphing of synth pop with rock and the iconic tones of Suzi Quatro. 'Candy Man' was not released as a single but I think it one of the best tracks on that opus. It was pure luck that I stumbled across Suzi's 'Heart Of Stone' the following year (it is on my channel) and it was the last single of hers I acquired after nearly a decade of adoration. It was 1974's 'The Wild One' which introduced me to the glam rocker even though she had released several recordings before it. I ended up with 'Devil Gate Drive', '48 Crash' and 'Can The Can' on a Best Of Compilation at the end of the 1970's and Suzi really was the pre-eminent Queen of Rock in that decade. I lost track of her after 1983 until the 2010's and some new material.
She went 'soft' for a few years (which I loved too) with songs like 'Stumbling In' and 'The Race Is On' but returned to rock roots with 'Rock Hard' and 'Lipstick'. By 1983 though the formulae were wearing a bit thin, and 'Main Attraction' in late 1982 and early 1983 as the three singles from it were released in succession, was a very uneven set of songs and certainly one of her least successful but 'Candy Man' was a breath of fresh air, along side some lackluster softer fare. The new wave feel and that hypnotic beat gave it some edge. I am so glad I have reacquainted myself with this set. 'Heart Of Stone' is more reminiscent of those late 70's less gritty songs that Suzi was recording.
'The Wild One' has continued to record and tour and there is definitely some tougher sounds on her releases in the 21st Century. There's plenty of fire in that belly still. I am not sure if Suzi will tour downunder again (she was a very regular visitor here) but if she does, I will book a ticket! And take some ear plugs!!! No seriously, Suzi Quatro's legacy is huge.
