Nail KICK & BASS in a Metal Djent or Thall Mix

Modern Metalcore tutorial on how to mix kick and bass perfectly in a metal, deathcore or thall song. Believe it or not, a lot of metal guitar tone comes from the low end clarity of a bass guitar. These are the techniques I use when mixing a heavy metal track, by controlling the low end of the bass, while maintaining the impact of the kick.

For reaper users: you dont need trackspacer. Send kick to bass on channels 1/2 --> 3/4, reaEQ on Bass, take on band and place it in the sub area, just click once on the frequency gain slider, click on "param" or "link" depending on your version of Reaper --> parameter modulation link, detect 3/4, set direction to "negative", adjust strength to taste.

Silencer black salt audio works well for the chug noise as well if you have it try it out

I dont know if its something im doing but i think it just sounds better if i compress and boost the kick at 60hz and compress and boost the bass at 80 hz then doing side chaining

Do you use linear phase EQ to split the bass? Also the trick with the Saturn can also be achieved with a dynamic EQ(the free Nova for example) use it in excite mode with a shelf, bring the shelf down and will excite only by the pick attack.. saw buster doing this and It works like a charm haha, cool tutorial
