How High Should I Mount My TV?

When mounting your TV to the wall, you want to make sure your TV is mounted at the right height for a comfortable viewing angle.

Experts agree that 42 inches from the center of the TV to the floor is ideal, but there are times when that just isn't an option -- like if you are planning to mount a TV over a fireplace or above a taller piece of furniture.

If you need to mount your TV higher than natural eye level, you will want to consider two different types of TV mounts: tilting TV mounts and full motion TV mounts (also called articulating TV mounts and swivel TV mounts).

Just as the name conveys, tilting TV mounts allow you to tilt your TV downward bringing your TV down to your eye level when you are sitting on the couch, resting on a bed or playing video games on the floor.

In addition to tilt, a full motion TV mount adds extension and swivel. The further you are able to pull your TV away from the wall, the further you are able to tilt a TV downward. This is especially important if you have a larger TV as there needs to be adequate space between the TV and the wall to achieve full tilt.

The swivel provided by a full motion mount allows you to swivel your TV left and right. This is a nice feature to have if you have multiple viewing areas in a room or if you have an open concept floor plan where you want to see the TV from multiple rooms (like the living room and the kitchen).

I, have my TV mounted in the corner in my bedroom. I’m legally blind since I was born.”
It’s hard for me to see the TV from the bed.
I have to sit very close to the TV to see it better.”
I have a recliner in my bedroom, I have the recliner in front of the TV, the TV is tilted so I can see the TV better.”
I have to sit in the middle of the TV I, have dish satellite Hopper whole home DVR,
I can enable the magnification feature. So I can see the guide and channel banner easily without eye strain. It comes in handy for me, it’s the way to go! Ado I can get the dish Joey ti locate my remote. I love that feature!! Sometimes I, struggle seeing the remote when it’s sitting on the armrest on my recliner. So I have to use the locate remote feature. When the remote starts beeping I can find the remote in no time!! I give dish a big👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🫶🏻🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

"the only thing scarier than drilling holes.... is drilling them again"
"how about in the bedroom?"
"how about in the bedroom."

When picking my TV's height off the floor I realized that the recommended "eye level" suggestions from the internet made the view from the kitchen of the bottom of the screen blocked by the "eye level" heads of people sitting on the couch. I stuck an above average height person on the couch, went into the kitchen and sighted just above thier head to the wall where the TV was going to mount, and that's how I picked the bottom of my screen. Moral of the story is to consider all possible viewing locations before installing blocking and/or drilling holes.

What happens if you don't tilt the TV in a bedroom and keep it straight?

Sorry, I have disagree with your calculations. I worked with Sony back in the 90's and installed front and rear projection systems. Our rule was the bottom of the screen should be about the level of the viewers eyes.
You bedroom mounting height might be OK for people laying in bed, but not sitting on a couch.
Your neck will get cramps by looking up for a two hour movie

A meter is how high mine is and it's fine . Eye level looked too low for me. Don't need a height finder just look at TVs in bars, hotels ect there high up and look fine

I avoid watching TV in bed. As I used to tell my patient's your bed is for two things and one of them is sleeping. Ok, reading in bed is probably ok too. I don't want a glowing shrine that bombards my brain with different colors and makes going to sleep (remember sleep?) difficult!

TV height is a personal choice. How tall is the person. How big is the TV. How far away is the sitting / viewing area. We typically mount the bottom of the TV at 46" from the floor.

Have a 43 inch LG TV and purchased the SANUS mount from Costco. the SANUS site does not have my TV model # or the wall mount i purchased at Costco on their website. Worthless.

The tilt is for people that mounted the tv too high to start with.
Both tvs were too high.

It's OK, but Dynamic Mounting does a better job because it does more than just tilt down.

Tilt the SANUS so you can see straight into the ...

That height finder doesn't even work. You get all the way to the end and it just locks up and sits there spinning forever.

Interesting that the Sanus app is no where to be found. Video needs that edited out.

The real question is, who actually would put a television in the middle of their bedroom? Come on... there is more to life.
