All I did was throw seeds outside in a compost and all of a sudden I had 10 watermelons. Never watered them or cared for them. It was a pleasant surprise

I did not know they have shallow roots. I’ve never fertilized but I’m going to now. I know neighbors that won’t grow watermelons because they take up so much room. I actually take my vines and continuously keep spiraling the vines around the plant as they grow. This keeps down weeds because they are in more shade and I can till around them longer. I’ve never had a melon crowding problem with cantaloupes or watermelons training them this way.

I like how he said one thing us southerners know is how to grow watermelons. I'm in the south and all my watermelon plants died so that gene skipped me 😪

Love growing watermelons. Last my biggest two were 31.0 lbs and 27.6#. Aiming for that again this year.

Just planted my garden this evening . I useally place all the plants on the soil and then stand back and study the sunlight and how tall the plant will grow and if it will block sunlight to other plants. I move them around like chess pieces before I make a finial decition. Im also growing strawberrys from dollar general seeds.

Living in Eastern Europe its very rarely that you can grow a watermelon without extra care. But mostly we need to be lucky to get good weather. And also if summer is like 18-22 degrees celsius. Watermelons simply doesnt want to grow. Cause its pretty cold at night too.

You folks are awesome! I am a beekeeper and pollinate the local produce farms, they tell me that they noticed a huge increase in fruit once they had the proper pollination. On another note I purchased your drip irrigation package. One of the best things I ever bought, can't believe I waited this long to try drip irrigation. Your complete kit worked perfectly after I turned the 1 way pressure reducer in the proper direction of flow... do you raise hogs or cattle? Noticed some gates and barns behind you.... Thanks for you help!

Planting flowers helps bring in pollinators, try to get local wildflower seeds though.

How do you control weeds throughout the season? Do you use pre-emergent weed control? Thank you for your information.

Only fed organic fertilizer gives the best taste, you could use rock phosphate, or bone meal for P fish emulsion for N and chicken litter/egg shell for calcium. K is found in wood ash.

I’m going to put in a couple of seeds again to see what I can get (might just be knowledge of how not to do it next year) but something dug up the last seeds I tried.
