Eco driving tips - Which? guide

The aims of eco-driving are straightforward enough -- to save fuel and cut emissions. Company car drivers have been able to go on eco-driving courses for several years, but wider interest will be raised by the inclusion of eco-driving in the driving test.

Driving examiners make an eco-driving assessment of learner drivers, though doing badly won't result in a fail. At the moment the focus is on giving feedback to improve driving techniques.

The Driving Standards Agency says most drivers should see around an 8% fuel saving from eco-driving.

1:23 2:58 While these tips would work well for a petrol or diesel car, but there are different cars that work differently. Hybrids and Electric cars perform better in slow to moderate and stop-start situations. Coasting by knocking a Toyota Hybrid into neutral would indeed save fuel.
It's a bit confusing or even misleading to demonstrate those two specific tips that would work with a traditional car while presenting so in a car that's literally a Yaris Hybrid.

Auris MY15 Euro - best mpg 65.7 mpg or 3.58 l/100 km - how? 100% Eco Mode,
always use the battery between 40% and 80%,
always keep the needle at the half of the first eco section (on electricity or gas)
always park your car with 40% battery life
if there's a lot of accelerating and braking involved, use the battery between 80% and 90%.

I got 2015 Yaris sport, been trying to eco-drive; drive daily to work (about 30 km, 2 hours trip). Km/L indicator stucks at 14.1 Km/L; my manual record on Fuel monitor app (from full tank to full tank) says 14.5-15.0 Km/L. Any idea to improve it to about 18-20 km/L?

Choosing the highway instead of smaller roads does not save fuel. It takes four times more energy to travel at twice the speed, no matter what the initial speed is.

Coasting in neutral is always going to use less fuel. The engine is always using fuel to idle whether in gear or not. Engine causes breaking, coasting does not.
No myth here...

Did he just say coasting doesn't save fuel ? lmao.
if you don't need to slow down you can coast in certain situations and it's is tones more efficient than having your foot on the throttle. If you want to slow down you should engine break. When driving I use breaks only one large speed reductions so 80% of breaking for me is engine breaking. Abusing engine breaking like I do is very fuel efficient but you should see behind you, I sometimes just tap the break to let people know I'm slowing down. If you engine break break lights don't light up.
When you are going fast on highway it's usually better to just engine break in top gear when having a little down hill.
at slower speed when engine breaking is very significant you should consider coasting instead.
