This is brilliant and something I didn't know I needed, but I've been majorly struggling with! Thank you for another amazing quick tip! I've watched it twice just to let it sink in.

When I learned about Van Gogh putting reds in his greens a whole new world opened up to me. I feel like I practiced unifying a lot, the only thing I feel I really need to be careful about is not to loose depth, but perhaps that can be solved by being intentional with values?

I would love a quick tip about temperature as a unifying element. I believe you touched on that in your (wonderful!) book?

Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I'm a sculptor that's just begun painting in watercolor. Your lessons and explanations apply to all mediums. Do you paint only in oils?

Diane, I have loved this video, such a short instruction that impacted so much. I am wondering if the three colours on your palette were each mixed with white or did you use another lighter colour in the same range of each? Thank you so much for helping me (us) with our art progression.

Extremely important tip! An un unified painting simply doesn't work. I remember you have done another very useful tip about how to harmonise colors. Also very important. Thank you!

Hi Dianne, I needed this and didn’t know it! I’ve been at a loss trying to figure out how to get another color in. Showing your palette and how you picked up the red orange is super helpful. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, Julie 🥰

Thank you for your channel. I've always wanted to paint, but never had the slightest idea of where to start. But with the help of YouTube as my 'art school', I've learned so much and I'm finally turning my dreams into reality. You've been a huge help with color and blocking in and this is a very helpful video as well. Every little bit from here and there all help, and I owe obtaining my new hobby to people like you. Thanks so much!

Hi Dianne, do you ever use transparent white? Comments about it?

That's why I love to inter mix colors and use a little bit of that color with every other color, that helps to make a cohesive painting! Thank you Dianne! Another very important concept of painting! Your instructions & tips are always helping & I'm learning something new! I'm glad that I have found you! YOU ARE THE BEST! 👍

I cant thank you enough. As you know... layout out the palette like you have and learning to mix same values and mixing colours for harmony.... I feel so much more equipped to get the results I am after. Best wishes. Western Australia.

This is a very good video. I've actually become a little bit too pedantic lately about local colour, to the point that I find myself "over-checking", thus spending more time with my brush aimed at the subject, with one eye closed, murmuring to myself "hmmm, needs to lean a little more towards this colour" than I do actually painting.

I've produced a nice body of work lately, but I feel I'm becoming too verbatim. I'm loose with my brushwork, but SO strict with colour checking that I'm probably missing out on the unity factor in some of my paintings. What you said at the 18:20 mark was the proverbial piano falling upon my head. Thanks for the wake up call.
