I’ve come to realize that when it comes to fantasy(especially, high and adult fantasy), I actually like it better if the romance is in a background a little bit. Idk if it makes sense, but that way i have something to look forward to with more excitement ya know? Some of my fave high fantasy couples are Vin & Elend from Mistborn, Siri & Susebron from Warbreaker.

The Daevabad trilogy had such a great romance 😭 not what I expected at first but I fell in with them! Such a well rounded fantasy series.

I love secondary romances in fantasy! I like reading just contemporary romance or historical romance for my primary romances!

You do such a WONDERFUL job of summing up book plots! I agree with absolutely everything you said about Spinning Silver; such an AMAZING stand-alone fantasy novel that feels like a traditional fairy tale.

I’m half way through An Ember in the Ashes right now and I’m loving it. It’s such a page turner. It reminds me of the hunger games + the triwizard tournament in Harry Potter.

I really feel like you need to carry on with the Discovery of Witches series this winter ... the second book is INSANELY smart and well-done, so much history, and the romance just gets better and better!

I've realized that as much as I love genre books with a strong romance element (like Spinning Silver), I never read straight up Fantasy Romance books. But I suppose others that would fit into this would be the Simon Snow trilogy or the Strange the Dreamer duology for YA, and then Parasol Protectorate series (or the related series by Gail Carriger, which is like Victorian London + supernatural creatures but steampunk) or Kushiel's Legacy (and the related series by Jacqueline Carey, which is like an alternate fantasy history of France featuring a courtesan spy and heavy politics).
And technically it's scifi, but whatever: Winter's Orbit packs a bunch of great tropes into a story that is centered on an arranged marriage.

I feel like Spinning Silver was calling my name lol. I just finished reading A Deadly education by Naomi and I’m in love with it! I went to the bookstore to buy the sequel and saw spinning silver smack in the middle. Also, yesterday I was just thinking on how cool the character of Rumplestiltskin is! I got so excited when you said it was a retelling of him :D thx for the recommendations!

Oh my god FINNIKIN OF THE ROCK!! I read that book a million times over when I was younger and first getting into fantasy - it made me realize what the genre could do and what an excellent heart-wrenching book feels like. I remember sitting up in bed reading passages over and over again. You're right, it's criminally underrated, I haven't heard anyone talk about it before. This is my sign....it needs an immediate re-read

The Lux series by Jennifer L armentrout will forever be a guilty pleasure romance. Also A Court of Thorns and roses trilogy is a favorite of mine, as well as the Clockwork Angel trilogy by Cassandra Claire. Amy Harmon writes beautiful romances.

The Green Bone Saga is also one of the few series that gets better with each book. Love it.

I love this idea. Keep the romance fantasy recommendations coming! Do you have a video on funny books? I need a good laugh and am always looking for laugh out loud characters, in fantasy or any genre. Thank you!

I feel like most fantasy has some element of romance (ymmv). Some have it in the forefront, and others have it more in the background. I wouldn't consider Green Bone saga a fantasy romance story. The romance is very much in the background (mind you, I have only read the first one so far, but I don't think a couple of steamy scenes equal a romance. Great read, nevertheless, and as I said, most fantasy has some element of romance, it's just definitely more in the background in Green Bone--at least so far. Personally, I am hoping Andon finds some love). I read a lot of books with queer romances (either subplot or central), whether it is the main romance, or side romance. I have heard good things about Ember in the Ashes!
If you want epic fantasy with a good romance, check out Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling. It's an older series, but I love it. Also check out the YA fantasy trilogy Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kegawa. It's inspired by Japanese mythos, and has both a main and secondary romance.

I knew you were going to pull out City of Brass after that description and GIRRRRL you are so right. It’s amazing! Probably my favorite fantasy series. ❤️
