Original # Matching L31 409/400 HP V-8 | 4 Speed Manual

The Impala had become a representative of upscale full-size comfort in 1965, continuing to carry forward a legacy of muscle-car like characteristics even as midsize vehicles began to seriously challenge for market share. In 1965, the redesigned version proved so popular that buyers purchased more than one-million examples. That fact does not make these cars common today; many were lost to the gas crunches and sheer wear in the ensuing half-century. Offered here is a 1965 Impala that has been fully refreshed to like-original specifications. Moreover, it was born with the same DNA that had put the model into the popular consciousness: this Impala features its original #Matching L31 409/400 HP Turbo-Fire V-8 engine. The 409 was in production only a few months into the model year before being superseded by the new Mark-series 396, so 1965 was its final-ever year as a passenger car production engine and reportedly only 742 L31 factory installations were made that year. This example utilizes a 4-barrel carburetor, chrome dual-snorkel air cleaner, and dual exhaust, and was amply backed by a Muncie 4-speed transmission with Gear Venders Overdrive. Where this car truly stands out is in its gorgeous black refinishing with matched black interior layout, creating a muscular all-business vision to match the driveline. Indeed, the car even hosts color-matched steel wheels with dog-dish hubcaps and OEM-design non-descript blackwall tires. The interior is actually quite accommodating, with this car hosting power steering, heater and defroster, tilt steering column, power split bench seat, wood-grain dash trim and AM radio. A chrome factory floor shifter is still used for changing gears, while exterior appointments include chrome mirrors, 409 fender emblems, factory-correct T3 headlights and lower body chrome accent panels with wheel moldings. Still possessing a style that helped clarify for many what a full-size 1960s-era Chevrolet performance model should look like, this refreshed Impala awaits an owner who recognizes its raw truth in packaging and the need to pack big inches.

Not a die hard chevrolet muscle car guy here so had to look this one up.
Only 2828 impala ss were built that year with the 409. 742 units had the 400hp version the rest were the 340hp version of that engine.
In January of 1965 the then new 396 big block replaced the 409.
I wouldn't call this ultra rare but yeah pretty rare.
I sure had to do a double take when I seen those W lookin' valve covers because honestly I thought 64 was the last year for the 409, so I find this quite interesting.
