The Terracotta Army of China
The Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang, terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. It was discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong County, outside Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The figures vary in height according to their rank, the tallest being the generals.The tomb appears to be a hermetically sealed space roughly the size of a football pitch. Four main pits have been excavated containing the main army of more than 6,000 figures, cavalry and infantry units, war chariots, and high-ranking officers. Other pits contain bronze carriages, terracotta figures, burial sites of horses, and bronze cranes and ducks.
