The Opening Ceremony of the 33rd edition of the Modern Olympics has come and gone.

The event marks the official start of the 2024 games in the French capital Paris.

The spectacular event held on banks of the River Seine, marked the first-ever opening ceremony to take place outdoors.

The event was held hours after a series of "malicious acts," including arson, targeted France's high-speed train lines.

The "coordinated sabotage" caused travel chaos around a day of pomp and circumstance.

Attendees also had to contend with dreary weather, with steady rain falling along the River Seine.

The Parade of Nations took place on the Seine itself, with boats carrying thousands of athletes through the center of Paris.

Organizers estimated a crowd size of over 320.000 spectators.

Attendance capacity at the opening ceremony was, however, slashed due to security reasons.
