Q.E.D. - an abbreviation for the Latin phrase “quod erat demonstrandum”, which means "what was to be demonstrated". It's used to indicate that a proof or argument is complete. This is the CD where we will get close to the truth behind this project.

“Q, a mystery or question

QQQ sounds like 999 in Japanese. In Japanese culture, the number 9 represents a long-lasting life, and when repeated three times, it amplifies this meaning, suggesting a period of extended wisdom and enlightenment – It’s what appears on the slot machine at 2:47 too, suggesting a win? Generally, the number 999 can represent completion, new beginnings, and spiritual growth. It can also represent the need to let go of old patterns and embrace change – Having Lihito singing “999” as his first line in this song does link to my thoughts around his change in the ‘Spectac1e’ MV.

Red countdown on black background: Similar countdown in ‘BIRTH’ but the colours were different, that one went down to zero but there wasn’t a blast, it looked more like the system was shut down. The green and blue lines when the countdown hits 1:22:29 do also appear in the ‘Unknown’ MV at 1:43 where the siren is going off as the die rolls onto six, after the line "The secret is here, True fear".

We were recommended to go back and watch the previous MVs before this one and I noticed there were a number of game references across a number of MVs: In ‘BIRTH’, we had the Game of Life and Space Invaders, plus the “Error: You'll never change what's been and gone.” when the ‘player’ selects Yes on the CONTINUE? Screen. We also had the “NEXT... What For...?” screen at the end of the ‘I know, Who I am’ MV and “Now Loading…” at the start of the ‘Lay it down’ MV.

When we have the “GAME START” screen in this MV however, Ryoga sings “No, it’s not just a game”. Previously, like in the ‘BIRTH’ MV, we see a TV screen turning off with the controller put down, but in this case, does “game end” mean the end of this project?
On the games played by the members– I actually think multiple games are being played on the same table.

We first see the setup look like 8-ball at “GAME START” (although slightly out of order I think, I’m not very familiar with pool sadly!) with Kaoru taking his turn first. Notice Setsuna and Ryoga aren’t playing. Then we see Haruta play but when he does, the white ball goes flying – this is considered a foul, meaning the opponent will receive the advantage of the next shot, usually with the ability to place the cue ball anywhere behind the head string on the table. Lihito doesn’t play and only watched the ball fall (more on this later). The next person we see taking a turn is Mahiro, where we see “Anthos*” appearing on it.

This isn’t just a game of pool – This is more than that and the pool table is just a metaphor – This game has players showing their desires for Anthos*’ future, with the main players being Kaoru and Mahiro. This is why we see Mahiro’s ball reflected in Kaoru’s eyes.

“When two things with different types and personalities meet, a huge power is born.”

The reason I think we see Kaoru’s eyes losing all light is that he notices this – Mahiro isn’t playing the same game as him i.e. He’s not leading Anthos* down the same path Kaoru wants to see them go.

I think Mahiro is playing 9-ball instead. The winner of 9-ball is the person who pockets the 9-ball (1:23), this is what Mahiro goes for. If Mahiro wins, we’re going down the path of Anthos* being true to themselves, not the path of becoming perfect as Amagiri Production and Kaoru wants. At 1:52, we see Mahiro has his own cue ball with the 2 red marks on it too, suggesting he’s playing a different game from Kaoru.

Mahiro would have been successful but we’re unable to see the result due to the snake. Snakes can symbolise rebirth, renewal and even immortality. Given the story of Adam and Eve, they are also associated with lies, evil and temptation – The snake in this instance is getting in Mahiro’s way and has ill intentions for him (as Mahiro is often represented by Eve). The snake getting in Mahiro’s way is also advantageous to Kaoru, who has been portrayed as Amagiri Production’s puppet in ‘Fake Veil’ and the symbolism matches what Amagiri Production is trying to achieve through this project.

Another game we see being played may be Russian Pyramid – We see Setsuna with 16 white balls, and we also see the game first set up at 0:28 in the MV. However, usually the cue ball would be red, not white – Maybe the cue ball here being white indicates that Setsuna is playing his own game, unknown to everyone else who see him as playing the same game as them. Given the events of the last CD, it wouldn’t be surprising if he instead focused on his own identity and memories (From ‘Fake Veil’s lyrics: "Shape composure and repair these memories") and then forge his own path based on it (like in the end of the ‘Spectac1e’ MV, where he decided to get on the smaller boat with Mahiro, while everyone else was on the larger ship). This is supported by ‘TELL’, where we see Setsuna with a burning ship, but when paired with Mahiro, the ship is no longer burning and the lyrics go: "Seeking for role role role role role all the time, My voice was muffled.” – Being with Mahiro is allowing his real self to break free of this current version of Yashiro Setsuna created by the production. In this MV, he even sings the lines “To prosper, to rise, to wish for myself Cue! Cue! Cue! Salvation for you!” as Mahiro appears on screen. Interestingly, Setsuna has a line in ‘Q.E.D’ where he asks for applause but later then sings that he doesn’t need any cheer or applause – Indicating a change in him.

Finally, we have Haruta. I mentioned earlier he made a foul in Kaoru’s game, but I think later at 2:03, the game changes for him too – With his cue ball now being painted black, he may be playing Black Ball, which has its own rules. References to other MVs include ‘ChangeYourWorld’ with the lyrics going: “I hate my life. You change my world. The colour of my heart -Black paint me. So, I miss you.” – While he started off with playing Kaoru’s game, I think he’s going to change and try to remember Toki for his own sake, especially with the shock of Loulou*di suddenly going on ‘hiatus’. In the ‘Me Against Myself’ MV, we see black paint poured everywhere, filling screen with the lyrics: "This is the only lonely way" – In ‘Spectac1e’, we also see Haruta being the only one in natural water, not in a room like everyone else. Haruta’s first line in ‘Q.E.D’: “The ripe fruit falls and I pick it up Cradle Cradle” indicates to me he will learn the truth about Toki eventually, especially with the cradle being linked to nurseries as we’ve seen in previous MVs linked to Haruta and Toki. The final “Quench” also indicates his thirst for knowledge is satisfied.

I think it’s interesting that Mahiro, Kaoru and Haruta are also the members that appear as being wanted in the ‘Flash Point’ MV where they’re accused of stealing the crystal, with “Fight Out” being the most prominent lyrics when they’re shown – I think these are the members that can influence the path of the group with what they know if they wanted to, which may be why Kaoru and Haruta’s memories have been tampered with the most so far. We also see Setsuna surrounded by multiple crystals but he’s never been reflected in any sphere in any MV so far - Is he watching as an outsider (linked to his identity issue, as they’ve smothered his true self under this “perfect” guise)? Speaking of spheres, in ‘Spectac1e’ we see Setsuna with a sphere of water with jellyfish in it, which can represent a wake-up call and having the resilience to survive as your true self.

On some of the specific balls:

The orange 5-ball rolling away from white cue ball at 1:49 has Haruta's silhouette in his ‘TELL’ outfit but the ball is getting stained around him. It’s interesting that they picked this silhouette, especially as ‘TELL’ was the CD we got to hear about Haruta’s past and where we saw the strength in Haruta and Kaoru’s relationship come out most. If Haruta hit this ball himself, maybe he’s trying to win this “game” for himself and not to become a perfect idol?

We also see the blue 4-ball rolling away from white ball with Chise's current ‘Q’ silhouette faintly appearing in it, the lyrics going “Run through the darkness” Does this suggest Chise was able to realise something about Kaoru’s plan? To note, in the ‘Unknown’ MV, we see a die roll onto the number 4, at which point Kaoru dissolves inside the room of water he's in (References to ‘Spectac1e’ and Mizu) and this is followed by a flask of liquid. Could this be a sign of us losing Kaoru for this “doll/fake” version of him? A flask appears in ‘S.T.O.P’ too with the lyrics as follows: Haru: “Are you still not aware?” Kaoru: “The weak are controlled” Chise: “by this mechanical system”. I feel like unless Kaoru opens his eyes, the production will continue to use him as they like.
