looks are not completely subjective. that thing is objectively beautiful. its gorgeous. symmetry and proportions. curves and lines. glorious.

I absolutely love the angle of the driving around town shots, accompanied by a pretty useful description of the most important aspects of daily driving a manual (clutch weight, shift smoothness, steering feel, etc). 99% of driving is exactly that even for sports cars so it's very refreshing to see a more normal car review this way

As for the clutch feel, I recommend switching out the OEM clutch spring for the mtec clutch spring, it won't kick back as strong anymore makes it a lot more consistent through the gears.

This is the most honest review I have seen for this car on the whole internet. Thank you man.

Got my GR86 in May of 2023 - Love it. It's great in daily traffic. The wife and (little) kid love it as well.

Would easily take this over the brz twin
It’s amazing how Japanese brands except Mitsubishi are still making sports cars and sedans today

I’ve had this car for over a month and I feel like I’m no where near driving it proficiently. I haven’t driven manual for 2 years before getting this car and never really learned how to drive manual smoothly before that. I’m definitely seeing some improvement tho and the car is a blast to drive, even with keeping it under 4K for the break in period. Im at 850 miles so I’ll be taking the gloves off very soon 😈

Hi, Kirk. Thanks for uploading the new video. The scenery in Florida is amazing. The blue body is perfect for Florida. For daily use, the AT version GR86/BRZ with EyeSight would be useful. It will reduce the stress you feel especially in highway traffic.

Someone else has probably commented, but the fake engine noise comes through its on own speaker that’s located behind the head unit. I find it to be so artificial sounding that I had the dealer disable it.

Really want one of these but Toyota makes them so hard to get since you can’t order, they’re adding accessories a lot of ppl don’t want, many dealers are marking them up and we have the rtv issue!

If just for a weekend car, then I'd take the MX-5, but if I had to daily, I'd take this GR86 hands down. That's if you're single. If you have a family, then Civic Si, please.

I've been waiting 6 months to get one a manual in this color. Toyota is really dropping the ball on making manual versions.

I had a 2016 scion frs as a daily driver. It pretty much does the job for everything I needed. Commute to work, buy groceries, took people to airports, went shopping with it and much more. Only down side is buying larger items. That's to be expected for a small car.

Came out of a 2022 civic si to buy my 2022 gr86. I find the shifter to be more enjoyable to drive in the Toyota. And yes, it isn’t always easy to drive smoothly but that’s part of the challenge. I’m a year and 12k miles into ownership (my other car is an ND2 Miata) and I love it!

I'm getting to understand that these cars have a problem with their engines, apparently there is an oil line that is becoming clogged, when this happens it causes oil starvation, which results in the engines blowing up.

The Civic is a turbo so the low end torque and city drivability is expected. IMO the 86 and Miata are really more weekend cars that are more fun to wring out with the 86 more livable than the Miata.

I’m driving my 2022 BRZ daily, clutch and shifting is perfect and so much better then the last gen. Totally a fun drive, beckons to be driven. Can’t imagine a Honda Civic fwd being compared to this sports car 🧐

Great review! I wanted to know how this car is to daily and you provided all of that. Is the Subaru variant any easier to daily drive, suspension and clutch?

There’s some apparent cases of RTV sealant issues for this vehicle. Hopefully Toyota/Subaru can resolve this issue before the engine dies from oil deprivation…

Not the easiest to shift or drive smoothly without some time, but when you get used to it, bc of how much work and focus you put it to finally be able to do it smoothly, it's soooo damn satisfying and rewarding. There is no other better option for a 6 speed, rwd car under 45k. The MX5 is great, but not practical
