90. IGBT Theory and Testing

preview_player
Показать описание
An overview of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors. we take a look at some theory, where and when to use an IGBT, how to test one with a DMM, and two experiments checking parameters from a data sheet.

At 14:54 I should have said milliohms or or a few siemens.

Great video. I can see how these devices can be used to control some pretty high power. And you demonstrate nicely how the gate voltage must be actively driven both up and down to control properly. Thanks.

I really enjoyed your excellent video. I just started to swapping from MOS FET to IGBT FET on Joule Thief or Joule Ringer.
According to your video, I understood some concerns about the gate control.

This 36 minute video has taken me at least 2 hours to watch and understand so far. very helpful, but there is a lot here.

Good explanation and I liked how you included the speck sheet when doing the experiment.

In chapter 1, IGBT overview, the device terminal and drawing is confusing because the collector has the arrow pointing in versus in chapter 2, Forward blocking Mode, the emitter gets the arrow pointing in. Which one is correct ?

Great video sir, it helped me to understand a lot.
Thank you.

I'm learning power electronics. Your video is very helpful. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to your next videos.

Good video. I've never seen an IGBT in a TO-220 package before. I knew some existed, but have never seen one in the wild. The "small" IGBTs seem to mostly be in TO-247 packages. Though I haven't had the need to look for one in a few years.

This video is so useful. Can I have IGBT circuit image or file of images used in the video?

I am researching for a variable frequency inverter circuit (H-bridge, microcontroller) for my DC welder. IGBTs should fit this bill, any considerations I should be aware of before i get into this can of worms?

Btw excellent video. New Sub here!

A question sir i what type of diodes is use across the diodes less igbt I have a lot and everytime I try to use one it just kill it self in low side driving but works very will in high side but i did try using a 1 amp fast switching diodes across it but the diodes blow out and take the igbt out too so I need to know if I need the same current rating as the igbt it’s self for it to work and what type diodes is rated 390amp to use

Great video but one correction is needed. Normal IGBTs don't have an inherent body diode. That's the difference between igbts and mosfets. It's only this IGBT package that has an anti-parallel fast recovery diode PACKAGED with an IGBT. This is written on the datasheet used. IGBTs DO NOT have body diodes. Only RC-IGBTs have them and they have a different structure than the one explained in this video.

FYI, I have an MTX 3293B DMM that has two diode modes. One at 2.1V and the other at 26V/10mA.

Very well explained, thanks ! Is it possible to put IGBts working at theirs linear part of its curve ?

hey can u tell us how to test igbt modules and troubleshoot pcb boards ....pls

At 14:17 yo say that the current flows from emitter to gate but I think that the electrons flow from Emitter to Gate (and then to collector) and we have current from Collector to Emitter. Am I correct?

I was wrong to say that the symbol and labeling are incorrect. I understand now that the emitter is functioning as a collector in this device. You do have it correct I should have known

Interesting stuff, but I'm a bit confused; shouldn't the BJT symbol on the diagram around min31 be flipped vertically?

I am having trouble performing a dead short test on an H bridge that utilizes igbts. We are using an acpl 3333 J octo driver
