Bill Sharman was a great player and a great coach. When he became coach of the Lakers he made Jerry West a point guard, Wilt a defensive stopper first, and installed a running game like the great Celtic teams. All the Lakers did was win a record 69 games, won a record 33 games in a row, and they won the title for the first time in the Jerry West era.

Too bad there seems to be so little video of him as a player. The stories about him are legendary.

Bill was a fantastic player as well as a person. Bob Cousy and him made up one of the best backcourts the nba had ever seen and he helped the lakers win their first championship after moving from Minneapolis to LA. R.I.P. Bill Sharman you deserve to rest peacefully.

Fun fact: Bill Sharman won back-to-back championships from the ABA to the NBA, winning the ABA championship with the Utah Stars in 1971 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 1972.

I always thought that if there were a three-point line at the dawn of the league, he would have basically written the NBA history books on long-distance marks. RIP Mr. Sharman.

An outstanding player and also a fine coach in both the NBA and ABA. I believe his amazing shot at the 14 second mark is the second longest in pro basketball history, second only to that of Jerry Harkness of the Indiana Pacers against the Dallas Chaparrals in an ABA game on November 13, 1967. It was a last second heave, a three-point shot, that won the game for the Pacers!
