Backrooms started out as a piece of Creepypasta on 4chan in 2019. Somebody asked users to post disquieting images of “places that just feel off”. One reply was a large open yellow room. It was to this one that another user wrote a paragraph introducing the phrase “the Backrooms”.

Back in 2011, I used to work in a mall near my house. My manager asked me to go get the mail for the company I was working for. She asked me to follow her to the stockroom in the back and open the locked door where we would receive packages that contained new merchandise. Stepping out into that hallway that went behind all the stores in the mall looked so much like the Backrooms and I was so creeped out at the time without ever knowing why it made me so uncomfortable. I think that's why the Backrooms are so creepy, they always look like a place we have been before, but just slightly off. After that time in the hallway, and for the rest of the time I worked there, I made sure to never be required to get the mail again.

Now I can totally say I don't spend enough time on the internet because I didn't know what the backrooms were. I still can't wrap my brain around it, and I don't think I want to tbh. It's very creepy lmao.

The reason the backrooms honestly scare me is because that’s usually how a majority of my dreams are. Me just trying to survive in a dim area. Always running to the point when I wake up my heart is always beating so fast. I usually wake up so incredibly tired even if I slept in bc of how much energy I used in my dreams. And when I tell ppl about my dreams they don’t see how much they affect me. They’re too surreal and the images and atmospheres are never something my brain can come up with.

When you said one level was public bathroom, that sent me. Ive always had very vivid and lucid dreams.
One recurring dream was different bathrooms that were endless.
One was all concrete and grimy. And concrete toilets.
One was grey with blue stalls.
One had green stalls.
They were disgusting. Some had stalls that were grouped together, doors would shut, no doors at all.

Very possible that these added “levels” are real lucid dreams people have had
