One of the great "garage band" rock songs of all time "The Barbarians".
"Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl?" was released in Sept. 1965, just as the long hair faze began. The song was done with tongue firmly planted in cheek, as The Barbarians sported long hair themselves. This video features "cameos" from "The Beatles", "Rolling Stones", "The Doors", "Big Star", David Bowie, Justin Hayward and Steve Marriot of the "Small Faces".

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the Barbarians back in the late fall of 1965. They were as wild and wooly as their name implies.

Nuggets is one of the best, if not THE best, box set collections put together with wonderful narrative done by Lenny Kaye, guitarist for Patti Smith and DJ on Sirius Little Stephen's Underground Garage. I LOVE these songs and would love to put together a band that does nothing but this stuff. So much fun to play. GARAGE ROCK RULES!

saw them in Barrie Ontario in 1965 I think...a little vague...Moulty was fun. He said he got a steel drumstick because he broke sticks and had to screw the new ones into his prosthetic (don't hold cherry bombs and light them kids). Then he started busting drum heads. fun band and good guys.

Produced by the same Doug Morris who wrote "Sweet Talking Guy" for The Chiffons and became a big record producer and started his own record company and then Sony music. Still alive at 85.

Wow. Can you imagine how this song would offend people, if it were released today. 🤯

This song was legendary when I was a kid. The drummer had one hand. We all thought was totally cool.
