The government has recently introduced the Broadcast Services Bill 2024. A draft of this bill was released last year, in which the government wanted to regulate OTT content and digital news.

But now, with the help of this bill, they also want to regulate YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter content creators. Creators who publish news and current affairs on these platforms will now have to register with the government’s regulatory system.

Additionally, they will have to form a committee to review their content. Because of this, many people believe that this bill will violate the right to freedom of speech and expression.

A government official even admitted that content creators had an impact on the results of the Lok Sabha elections. This is why the government wants to bring this bill, as most people now trust content creators more than Indian media for information.
