Last night Elon Musk posted a pair of low resolution images showing the new Raptor engine getting ready for testing at the Mcgregor, Texas facility. Raptor is a next generation design using full flow staged combustion cycle, a design which has never been successfully flown, but offers superior performance and reusability.

Scott, you don't get enough credit for having just the right length of a musical intro.

7:14 scott says 300 bar might not be possible.... over a year later and they just hit 330 bar

Nobody gets me more hyped about rocket engines than Saint Scott.

It's a work of art 😭 - Tell you what Scott.... *these are pretty good times to be a fan of space exploration!*

“I’m not really a rocket scientist, I’m just a nerd who loves rockets” Scott Manley
Put that on a t shirt and I’ll buy it

Rocket Scientist or not, I actually understood the different designs of engine and that is a triumph of explanation! Thanks as always for great videos.

A year and a half later, the Raptor achieves 330 bar of combustion chamber pressure.

Love to see you see you interview Elon in the near future Scott.

"To explain that, I'm going to have to give you all a little bit of a lesson in rocket science."
This channel has always been something special.

Elon Musk walks into a bar, and enjoys his drinks so much he decides to buy it! It turns out, he's really good at managing bars, and his new company, Raptor, is growing fast. Years later, he decides to build another bar near his favorite launch site.

Scott, hearing this, calls him as quickly as possible. and says, "You can't do that, Elon!"

"Why not?" he asks.

"Three hundred bars?" Scott replies, "It just isn't possible."

It's so great to come back and watch this video again (December 2020). Then it was conversation about Hopper's nose cone, now it's all about SN8's flight. Then it was questioning whether Raptor could hit chamber pressures and thrust levels they previously claimed, now those are in the rearview and we're wondering just how much better the Raptor could even still get in the future. Imagine what it will be like watching this video in another year! It's just incredible what SpaceX is achieving.

Watching this video after the successful flight of SN8. You're one of the biggest or maybe THE biggest asset of the space fan community. Love your videos.

Just 1.5 years later. The Starhopper under construction flew magnificently, but SpaceX moves so fast it's now a museum monument. The Mk1 Starship founded on it was obsolete before flight. SpaceX drastically changed direction and now SN5 has flown and SN6 is on the pad. And that little tent containing the nosecone and the scaffolding around Starhopper - replaced by a city of tents and buildings, and Mid and High Bays. Oh, and Raptor hit that 300 bar and surpassed it. In a year and a half! I think Blue Origin built an assembly jig for a tank section in that time.
