Fusion 360 CAD/CAM + Tormach PCNC = Mystery Part! Any guesses what this is?

IF we pull this off, it may be the coolest project we've ever made :)

Hey, your enthusiasm is infectious.
Thank you for making these videos!

Great episode, having machining with the CAD really balances the show, and the mystery was a bonus, who ever told you to make this episode is brilliant!

Folks listen, this part folks, it's just tremendous. We make the greatest parts, and this is one of them. I talk to a bunch of great machinists all the time and they tell me, John these parts are just the greatest.

When you were at the cold saw, I thought you were making an 8" ruler.
😊
Thanks,
John

The magnet holds flux and the tapped holes are where you bolt the capacitor.

John watching you brush chips around leads me to believe you need some sheet metal covers for the table on your tormach. Heck if you make covers out of sheet aluminum and put removable magnets on the bottom, you could even catch a lot of iron dust if you ever machine iron castings again.

As someone said below, a coolant thing for separating iron from coolant for your new grinder. The tapped holes could be some sort of gang block for coolant or fixture for mounting.

My initial guess was a mount for a stepper motor and an adjustable pulley, but you did't drill all the way through that large pocket where the magnet is, makes me less sure.

It could be a housing for a hydraulic/pneumatic pump of some sort: the two slots are in/out ports, and a vane/impeller goes in the central hole, with magnetic bearings, and another (machined) piece goes on top, with a smaller hole for the shaft to turn the impeller.

it's not what it is, but seemed like a place to put a magnetic separator cup for the new grinders coolant. the slots for input output lines.

It's either a metric piffle valve handle or the base plate for a conniption fitting adaptor.

I was going to say that it was something to use with the Clearpath motors - right up until you were being a smartass about that Neodymium magnet ;-)

I'm thinking that as you got a new surface grinder, and you have recently visited the a friends shop. My guess is that is for the coolant system spark control, either a magnetic separator in the coolant lines or a catcher at the end of the guard.

I'm so much happier since I got my machines on the network, not carrying a thumb drive back and forth.
