Sky News host Paul Murray says he doesn’t trust Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s promise that purchasing an electric car will save Australians money, as a potential SUV and ute tax looms.

The Australian Government is set to introduce a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard for cleaner and cheaper-to-run cars, as well as holding a vote in Sydney and Melbourne on whether to tax SUV and ute drivers.

“Guess what Chris? I don’t trust you,” Mr Murray said.

“I don’t trust the people working for you.

“I don’t trust your bosses.

“Because you have an option right in front of you today to be able to show that you are willing to save people money.

“But what you are trying to do is change the cars that we drive, because it makes you feel better, it makes the lobby groups that demand it feel better.”

NO Thanks to an EV it's going to cost you tens of thousands to replace that not so green battery . Keep up the good work Paul Murray in exposing these lying grubs.

Don't believe any utterance Bowen or the ALP expounds about net zero or EV's or fuel efficiency . Their policies are impoverishing working Australians.

Labour, Albo, Bowen have no connection with the working class Aussies- Labour is as useful as second hand Toilet paper in Government.

Obviously Chris Bowen has not read Paul Maric's article regarding EV charging experience in California where they have the biggest uptake of EVs in America. Hopeless.

They only just recently did a comparison with 2 BMW's, one petrol, one electric.
And the petrol one shat all over the electric both in the cost of the trip and the time to do it.

We have the option to buy vehicles that use less fuel now... You can buy the eco version with the 1.3L engine but guess what, we don't want it! Stand by for our deluded overlords to bend us to their will regardless though.

How about asking what people want... after all they are supposed to be working for the public

They talk as though the majority can afford to go out and buy an EV when most are struggling to put food on the table. They are completely disconnected with everyday Aussies!

EVs - i could not do my work all over the state if i had to utilise an electric vehicle - no one is going to pay me to sit in a carpark to charge a vehicle and reduce my work hours to allow me to support the cars charging requirements. It will be me not being able to work, in my field, not by my choice

If and when EVs become popular it could take hours to line up and charge up. Two people in front of you and your there for 2 to 3 hours

Don't forget that not only does the govt get the petrol tax of 49+cents they also get the GST on each litre of fuel sold.
