BREAKING ARCHAEOLOGY NEWS! Egyptologists have found the first new tomb of an Egyptian Pharaoh since King Tutankhamun! You heard that right, it’s the first pharaoh’s tomb to have been found in the area of the Valley of the Kings in over 100 years! Any discovery of a pharaoh’s tomb is a big deal, but this one that was found was the last undiscovered royal tomb of the 18th Egyptian Dynasty, and the husband of the legendary Queen Hatshepsut. That’s right, we’ve found King Thutmose II’s tomb.

Bizarre World in which news like this goes largely unnoticed.

This was an awesome way to break into the “news” Raven. You’re the first I heard it from. Thanks so much for the story. 😊

The blue ceiling detail is so cool. Imagine being there, finding those fragments, and realizing what they meant.

Now this is indeed exciting news! I always had wanted to be an Egyptologist, unfortunately, I did not make it through college. But I do wish I was there to have seen it for myself, despite my disability. Yes, please post more archaeology news when available, no matter which region or culture of study.

Whatever the Egyptian authorities discover the unveiling, it just informs us how vast ancient Egyptian history really is. A remarkable history that continues!

I can’t imagine what it must have felt like to be the first one to read his name and realize what they had found.

Note that the mummy of Thutmose II was found in a cache with many of the other mummies of the kings of the 18th Dynasty in a cave above the funerary temple of Hatshepsut above Dayr el-Bahari. The cache of mummies includes Ahmose I, Amenhotep I, Thutmose I, Thutmose II, Thutmose III, Ramesses I, Seti I, Ramesses II, and Ramesses IX.

The original tomb was flooded shortly after building, and the lawsuit against the contractors still isn't settled 4000 years later.

I'm a history nerd who happened to stumble across this video.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

A "state of archaeology" update would also be useful. There are so many aspiring kids in the archaeology subreddits asking about jobs and things like that. It be useful to get insider takes on it. A professor changed my life in a good way by being honest about the job market for academic historians. Archaeology enjoyers need that too and you are a great communiccator.

I love hearing you speak. You are articulate and so educated on the subjects, you display a familiarity with the facts and questions. I don't believe anybody could turn you off if there was a physical switch. Those are all great assets. That being said, is there any way you could show pics, videos, etc to narrate!? I'll be there to listen.

I'd love to see this become some kind of series big or small news wise, its important to discuss the amazing and often overlooked work of these archaeologists and you deliver it in a really fun and digestible way, this is such a cool find and i cant wait to see its future impacts!♥

Since this tomb flooded, the second one is likely higher up the hill.
