I don't think Mac gets as much attention as he deserves when it comes to his guitar playing. So clean, so smooth. His alternate picking and string skipping in this video look so effortless. I think his slacker vibe really disguises how polished of a guitar player he is. Dayum.

For some reason it's easy to overlook this mate's guitar abilities, but this is quite impressive. He's holding a bass rhythm while also playing melody notes on higher strings. And it's also a very stylish song with whimsical lyrics. A true original!

C# G# C# F G# C# is the correct tuning; PROVIDED you put a capo on the 2nd fret.
But by putting a capo on the second fret, like Mac has done in this video, you have shifted the tuning to D# A# D# G A# D#.
Which is miraculously half a step up from Open D tuning (DADF#AD).
So yes, you can tune to open D; PROVIDED you put a capo on FIRST fret and play everything the same relative to capo position.
