In 1996 In bought a new big muff distortion pedal as I was going to record an album. Well you can actually hear it on the track “vent” on the album Premillenium tension of the British artist Tricky.

I remember trying out the black Russian Muff before it was discontinued and not liking it ONE. BIT. I now have the Bass Muff XO and read on the Big Muff history page that it is based on the Last black Russian Muff haha. I do use it on the Bass Boost mode so I think it is as massive as that Green Russian of yours. MASSIVE synth sounds with a chorus and an analog octave

The TLDR for these vintage big muffs is that the Triangles and rams heads are kinda the same but triangles are brighter and less bassy.
Green and black Russians are less gainy and have more mids and they sound very very similar to each other.
The standard big muff pi sounds very bloated and flubby compared to all of these.

Vintage bass is Font is also great ( haha...which I just ordered ) is pretty thin compared to it....

same same but different. Black one for a tiny touch more clarity, & as a bonus a bit more pedalboard space.

The GR reissue sounds more like a distortion - a kind of "produced" tone - whereas the other two have that gnarly, unpredictable vintage Muff "thing"

Great Video. Thank you. The Original Green had the best sound. The reissue just didn't have the same bottom end. I wonder if any or which of the "boutique" makers have that same vintage bottom end?
