Mixing can be one of the longest tasks in music production. The amount of work that goes into taking care of every minute detail tires even the most proficient mixers. Therefore, if you want to mix, you should at least know how to make the best usage of your mix console. Thankfully, this video covers the basics of Cubase’s mix console - such as the shortcut to access it, how to organize it, using the mixer’s history. Hopefully, after watching this video you’ll be more comfortable using the DAW’s mixer. This video comes from the Berklee Online course, “Producing Music with Cubase,” by Kevin Doucette.

Good coverage, but not for those of us using a large orchestral template running Vienna Ensemble Pro 7.

Here's a problem I'm having with Cubase in the MixConsole window. If there's some method I'm missing, please help because I'm mostly a Pro Tools user:

1. In my orchestral template using Vienna Ensemble Pro 7, my MixConsole shows two types of channel faders; Audio outputs for each instrument that you can apply EQ, sends, FX on, and MIDI channels faders that are static OFF and do not affect the instrument volume levels nor have the ability to apply EQ, FX, etc.

2. With the full MixConsole window, I must... use the MIDI channel faders to SELECT the different instruments to play them on my keybaord. The only way I've seen others work around this is to have a half n' half Project and MixConsole layout window so you can select the instruments in the top Project while working with the MixConsole faders below with the MIDI faders filtered out.

3. Why can't Cubase make it where you can select the MIDI instrument using the Audio channel faders while in the MixConsole window? Other DAWs do this, how is it Cubase doesn't have this feature? It can't be that difficult to program a software link to instrument selection for the Audio faders. We're already doing the different MIDI instrument selections in the main Project window channel layout, so what's the deal?

Nice, Cubase diserve his place in Berklee's course catalogue almost since version 9.5. They did a great job improving Cubase in so many aspects. They are even begining to be more commercial. Giving back a little to their customer.
