North Korea stokes further tension by once again firing off missiles into the East Sea... just weeks after the regime lobbed three missiles -- two Nodong-class and one Scud -- into the same general area.
This also marks the first time a projectile by the regime land in the exclusive economic zone of the South's closest neighbor.
Kim Hyun-bin has our top story.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on Wednesday that North Korea fired two ballistic missiles from Hwanghaenam-do province in the southwestern part of the country... at 7:50 a.m., South Korea time.
Both missiles are presumed to be mid-range Rodong missiles.
The U.S. Strategic Command said one of the missiles exploded soon after the launch.
South Korean military sources say the other one flew about a thousand kilometers and landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone.

"The missile launch is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions, especially as the launch was of a ballistic missile that could be tipped with a nuclear warhead and could target South Korea and even neighboring countries."

This latest launch is being seen as an armed protest against the upcoming deployment to South Korea of the U.S. missile defense system THAAD.
South Korea's defense ministry is on high alert for more missile launches.

"Many experts believe North Korea will continue to launch ballistic missiles in the coming days, as a large-scale South Korea-U.S. war game called Ulchi Freedom Guardian is scheduled for the middle of the month."
