At this point, nothing Google does in this field will mean anything. Even if Gemini is better than GPT-4 almost a year after its release, OpenAI will just release GPT-5 which will make Gemini look like a grade school kid in comparison.

And let's not forget Meta with their LLaMA models that are 10-16 months ahead of Google if not more (because of their capabilities/size ratio), and they are open source.
