People really don’t set the clocks on their microwaves and ovens on purpose because they think they won’t use em??

If that’s something that you’re worried about and/or have frequent power outages here’s a hack. Take a cup of water and freeze it, then put a pebble or anything else that would sink on top of the frozen water, if you come back and the pebble is at the bottom of the cup then you know that the ice melted while you were away.

If that's the only way they can tell food went bad then I feel a bit sorry for them.

That feeling when the microwave clock is the main clock my house uses to tell time 🧍‍♀️

If you're concerned about the power going off in food spoiling. Put a cup of water in the freezer. Once frozen put a coin on top of the ice. If the coin isn't on top of the ice then your power was out to long and the food was able to thaw and spoil.

The idea that you wouldn't use your stove or microwave clock is wild. You can't even chalk it up to smartphones: people have had wrist watches since before ovens have had clocks. It's just nice to have convenient little clocks

It is good to have when I am too lazy to take my phone out of the fridge.

Yeah, my power company sends me notifications about power outages

I set them 10-15 minutes early. The only time I REALLY use them is when I need to leave soon, so I always end up leaving early.

What kind of psychopath doesnt set their stove/ microwave clock?
That thing is in the center of your house, you will be going to the kitchen if you cook and if you dont. You will make your morning coffee there and look at the clock even if you dont eat breakfest. You have to go shopping? Ye, gotta check the kitchen for what youre low on. Bored and watching tv? You will eventually go there for drink or snacks.
Kitchen clock keeps you more grounded than any other clock, including your phone.

I used to use my clocks all the time. Mostly it was when I'm rushing out the door or something and I need to check what time it is quickly. I leave through my garage, which is attached to my house and the door to it is in the same room as the laundry room and pantry (it is a VERY weird layout and thats the best I can describe it this must sound like a nightmare to other people). But then I got a watch and now I just glance at that. But I also use the stove and microwave clocks for cooking n baking, where if I'm about to marinate something or put anything in the oven, or as I'm prepping a meal, I look at the time I finish a step or put something in to be cooked, as it's set to the exact time (it's one of my quirks; I'll make sure to do my best to set the time on a clock to the exact 0 second of time, so I will absolutely wait a whole minute to make sure that when I confirm the time to set it, it is set at the exact second that the time, like 1:30 PM, starts (I don't like it went clocks run fast or slow it bothers me)). So if I put something in the oven at 1:02 PM and it takes 45 minutes to cook, I know that it'll be 1:47 PM when I need to check on it. I used to rely on the timer functions of things, but there are times where I'll mess up setting up the timer and waste a minute or two, or I'll completely forget to start the timer until it's like halfway done cooking. And also the microwave timer turns off if you use the cook function on our new microwave so if you use that timer it just prevents you from cooking with it. So now I only use timers on my phone if I'm cooking/baking multiple things that all went in at different times, if I have something in the microwave/oven and I'm grilling outside, or if I have things that I need to stagger when they go in the oven or whatever. So I use the clocks a lot. It took a lot of trial and error because I'm not really the best with math, especially time/clock math, but I figured out my own little systems eventually.

Who says not to set these clocks, and who doesn't use them? Have they added a wall clock, ignoring the two clocks already in the room, or is their kitchen just a void where they never need to know the time?

The way you said use them don’t look at them and set them made me forget I speak English😂

The audacity to assume id be away from home for more than 16 hours and also dont have an account with my electricity provider that lets me know about outages is astonishing

Wow. People. Your fridge can go out for as many as 12 hours and your food will be *fine*
You can contact your power company to ask them if your power was out during any period of time, too.

also, why wouldn't you use that clock? it's at eye level and is probably more convenient to read than pulling out your phone or going to another room to look at a wall clock. unless you wear a watch, the oven/microwave clocks will almost always be more convenient
