Therefore, 20 days after Vijayadashami is new moon day when Deepavali is celeberated.
Naraka Chaturdashi is the day before the new moon day. Chaturdashi means 14th day.

Dashami means 10th lunar day after new moon day or full moon day.
Vijayadashami is done on the 10th day after full moon day in the month when the full moon rises in the Pegasus constellation.
