note: the alternating series test can only be used to prove convergence. if the limit doesn't equal 0, then the series diverges by the nth term test, NOT the alternating series test.
a technicality, but important for tests

Thought the alternating series test only tested for convergence? If the limit does not equal zero, then you have to perform another test to test for convergence or divergence. Since the limit of this example was 1/5, you have to preform another test, no?

I'm a week late. Technically yes. But. When you're testing what the limit is... that's just the divergence test. So in a way, the alternating series test uses the divergence test.
