In the US, we collect Hess oil trucks. They started producing Hess toy trucks back in 1964 and still make them today (although Hess is long gone). I had a few and now my son has a bunch of them. They release them every year for the Christmas holidays.

I always use a drop of thread lock if screening into metal, stops the screws working loose over time

Thought ref fiddly bits like the mirrors. Maybe a spot of glue on the lugs, not as a permanent support but holding the part just long enough to give you a free hand to screw it in place. Otherwise you need three hands and that's not happening!

I think model making, and everything under the broad banner 'hobby', comes under the even broader category 'luxury', as in 'What can I afford after paying the bills and the essentials to live?' As incomes decrease the money to pay for luxuries dwindles until nobody can afford them. At that point Hachette, IXO, Agora Models et al have a choice 'Go out of business' or lower their prices. Maybe release the kits over a longer period to make each installment more affordable? [Or reduce costs and make more parts plastic rather than metal] That way if/when the economy picks up they are still around to benefit.

That could be one reason people don't register their interest in trials. They can't afford the full model price so see no point in registering their interest.

Actually Wayne you inadvertently highlighted another reason when you said some people wouldn't have heard of Eddie Stobart. Niche markets. Part works are /already/ a niche market, but producing a model of a something in a niche market makes it even smaller.

I guess this is mainly (only) of interest in the UK. Considering that there is no one from the Stobart family on the board of the company any longer I would guess that the interest even in the UK would be minimal.
