How To Airbrush Bath Bombs For Perfect Paint Jobs!

Learn how to airbrush bath bombs. You can get really creative & it's so much fun!! Plus, the bath bombs are stunning with a sparkling coating!

RECIPE
The paint must be very thin - like water. A good recipe to start with is 5 milliliters alcohol + 1/4 teaspoon mica. You can also add some liquid colorant. *NOTE* Only use fine micas that have a very small grain size. Never use micas with a thick or chunky grain size. Basically avoid really sparkly micas, like the "pearl" series from Marblers.

TIPS & TRICKS
Some micas work wonderful while others don’t work so well. I'm not sure why, but it was fun trying out all the micas! [Mica recommendations are below] NOTE: Mica settles with time. If you let the paint sit for a while, avoid the little bits at the bottom as it will clog your airbrush. You can't use polysorbate 80 as it makes the paint too thick (don’t worry it doesn’t make a ring around the tub).

PREPERATION
I take the control trigger off so I can adjust the needle. Add paint to the cup. Make sure the needle is all the way in so paint doesn’t drip out the front. Turn it on. Pull the needle back slightly & spray paper first to check that the brush is working properly & also to test colors.

PAINTING
Hold the air brush at least 5-8 inches away. Hold it steadily while gently moving the bomb with your other hand, taking care not to touch newly painted areas. If you paint too closely, the color becomes splotchy. Paint the top half first. Let each area dry completely (about 30 minutes) before painting new areas. *Always clean air brush before storing it*
NOTE: It's normal for the paint to come off a little bit (even when it's dry).

CLOGS
If your airbrush clogs, first (while holding the trigger down) try moving the needle back & fourth. If it's still clogged, pour the paint out (perhaps thin it) & try cleaning the nozzle. Backflow the liquid to blow out the clog; while holding the trigger down, cover the nozzle until air bubbles blow out of the cup. If it's still clogged, disassemble the air brush, clean all parts, then reassemble it.
