Episode 26 - The Altar

The altar is the central feature of every Catholic church. It is the most significant element in the church building. (It is even more significant than the tabernacle, since without altar, there is no reserved Blessed Sacrament.) The altar is the focal point of every liturgical celebration. The Church teaches us that Christ himself is the Victim; Christ is the Priest; Christ is the Altar of Sacrifice.

I have a few questions about genuflection and bowing at Church. Situation 1: if I am setting up the altar before Mass and have to pass between the altar and the tabernacle (placed behind the altar) a few times, should I bow before the altar or genuflect before the tabernacle? Should I do this everytime I pass in front of it while I am setting up for Mass? Situation 2: During Mass, if I am an altar server and I have to pass between the priest (who is sitting right behind the altar)and the altar, should I bow before the altar or before the priest who is acting in persona Christi? Situation 3: If I am walking around inside the Church (not during Mass) and have to pass a few times before the altar with the tabernacle right behind it, should I bow or genuflect and should I do it as many times I passe in front of it (even if I am not in the chancel?
