thanks Charles! I'm going to take a guess that it's the alternator cause obviously it's a huge draw. either way, I am familiar with doing current draw tests so no sweat there, now I have a few leads to check out first!

I'm glad I'm not the only tech to move left to right to make sure that temp gauge is reading 190 lol!! Awesome vid Charles! Keep up the awesome work!!

The first question with the battery drain, I think it is the battery itself. Lead acid batteries can develop conductive salt bridges between plates especially if they are fully discharged on occasion. I suggest leave the car overnight (or two) with the battery disconnected after a full charge.

I think they figured it out on the Mk7 Golf platform.. when full it sits exactly on the full mark.

I agree. I work on cars as a hobby but I wouldn't want to do it every day. I think it would ruin it for me

Ahhh now I know the technical term for it "Battery Voodoo" . About 2 years ago my 01 Beetle was running like crap and the cruise control would not work. Nearing the end of rational thinking I used the procedure you described and the car has run fine with a working cruise control ever since. Must be the VW equivalent of Control-Alt-Delete. ;) Thanks Man!

Modern gauges are actually set via the car's computer and is read from the resistance / voltage output of the sensors, most gauges actually have mapping! They are often limited to keep customers happy, such as most coolant gauges staying at 190'F even when the coolant and sensors are reading 150-230'F! (tested with my DerpSpeed project car)

To correct the gauge you will need to adjust it via software or unadvisedly change the voltage on the sensor wires via a small resistor. This will throw off what the computer reads and depending on the sensor, can change everything from mapping to cars performance. So changing it via software is advised over the resistor method.

So, the tank is full, then the filler tube up to the gas cap fills to some extent, so it will read over full until the level falls into the tank again. Side note, I fill until the first click, some cars get cranky if over filled ;)

Quick question, when routing engine oil cooler lines from the sandwich plate, does it matter which fitting they go to on the actual oil cooler?

I hope you have some time for a freeloader question. I have a 2010 Golf Trendline and my red steering wheel light alarm is lit but I have no issues with the steering right now. might it just be a faulty sensor?

Hey Charles! You opinion? 2014 VW Jetta SE 1.8t. Under 5 yrs and and 51k. Either upper portion or oil pan or timing chain cover leaking oil at bottom passenger side of engine. It's all over front and side of oil pan and above it. Also splashed up onto subframe. Think VW will cover this under power train warranty

Isn't there a connector in the pass footwell that needs to have it's position swapped to get a Sirius module working on the MKV?

My brother used to drive a FIAT 124S (coupe) back in the '80s, and the gauges had the opposite problem...they were too accurate.  Or at least, they responded too quickly...so if you hit the brakes, you could watch the gauge move as the fuel sloshed back and forth in the tank.

is the fuel gauge not showing over full to show how much is in the filler neck to the tank ?
