How to fix this episode’s ending. Instead of a prank from Krabs and Squidward, the hook is actually trying to pull him to the surface. SpongeBob and Patrick both get hooked, but Krabs uses a humorous technique to save them. We then discover that Plankton is behind all this, and was trying to lure SpongeBob and Patrick, then put them on the surface to they’d dry out and die. Mr.Krabs beats Plankton with the help of SpongeBob while Patrick is trapped in the hooks. They free Patrick and Plankton flees. The episode ends on a second use of the joke "Mother of Pearl, fire on the deck!"

This was an amazing episode, and I think SpongeBob got what he deserved in the ending for disobeying krabs

Ironic that the 2 last episodes to feature Mr.Krabs in the first season both portray him as a jerk while he had this fatherly feeling that made him such a charming character in the rest of the season. What a way to tease the rest of the show.
