Five hours before singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was scheduled to take the stage at the gargantuan SAP Center in San Jose, California, he sauntered into the arena’s backstage area to perform a note-perfect acoustic version of his hit song "Thinking Out Loud" for Acoustic Guitar magazine's online series 'AG Sessions.' He also spoke with AG editor Mark Segal Kemp about his love of Van Morrison and Martin Guitars.

Glad Ed got a Grammy for this song. It's timeless . People of all ages love it and ask us to play it at gigs.

Really good interview. I've noticed that in most interviews, the interviewers focus a lot on him as a person, his friendship with Taylor Swift, and forget or ignore the fact that his job is making music. Where as in this one, if was straight on influences, songwriting, touring, etc. I really liked that. Definetly going to watch more of  the acoustic guitar magazine videos now!

This  is like the best interview ever. He asked amazing questions really trying to see the soul of the artist and the source of his muse. Instead of those bubble gum lame pop questions most interviewers ask these days.

I don't think there's a modern-day pop musician who's more comfortable with a guitar than Ed Sheeran. His voice is amazing, and his guitar skills are insane. He's so naturally talented and he works so hard as well.

Tuning down the guitar definitely helps us all last a little longer while playing live gigs. Ed sings a whole bunch of songs down a half or maybe a whole step and the average person most likely never notices the difference. A true artist this guy, and a great songwriter.

Good interview from both parties - Ed still seems grounded - long may he stay that way and he gets all the rewards that are his due.

He’s a top guy and couldn’t wish for a better ambassador of our country and music. Well done Ed you’ve smashed it and deserve it.

I'm a Van fan from the 70's and even though he was inspired alott by Van, the tune still sounds uniquely his.
I would insanely love to see Van and Ed do a duet on this and one of Vans.
Van should invite him to a live gig. No shit.
