Hemi 5.7 P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire - Dead Cam/Lifter

Diagnosing a P0305 cylinder 5 misfire code on my 2011 Ram 1500 Sport 5.7 Hemi. Replacing spark plugs and coil pack did not fix the issue. This was the start of my journey the ended with me building a custom 392 Stroker motor to replace this destroyed, metal shaving filled motor.

2011 Chrysler 300C 5.7L Hemi with a cylinder 5 misfire. Turns out it was the camshaft. Took out the whole lobe on #5. Much better diagnosis than originally anticipated. Currently replacing camshafts. Best luck to all!

That’s what happened to my dad’s hemi, valve didn’t even move at all. Ended up just being a bad lifter and the Sam was perfectly fine. The part of the lifter where the puchrod sits got cockeyed. So did a push rod and replaced all lifter on that side of the engine. It is a lot of work but way cheaper than the $12k quote we got from the dealer for a new engine. $600 in parts and we got a camshaft we never used along with a spare water pump and lifters for the other side of the engine. Truck runs better than it ever did before and pulls hard. Also did both exhaust manifold gaskets and replaced the bolts. It’s a tedious but fun job and it’s pretty rewarding after. Only thing is be careful when you put the rockers on, sometimes the pushrods don’t seat fully in the rockers and they can slip off.

I drive a 2015 ram 5.7 hemi for the state highway department and ours just recently started misfiring and it turned out being cylinder 5 and we put all new plugs and a coil pack on cylinder 5 and still missfires so they plan on sending it to the auctions because according to the district mechanic thats a very common problem with those trucks and the state is tired of fixing them, then 2 weeks after that I hear that the main district in Little Rock had 4 more go down in the same week all for the same problem

I got same issue cylinder 5 misfire. Changed coil and plugs still didn’t do the justice, so currently bouta take valve cover off and replace everything there including gaskets and all. Save a lot of money doing it yaself

That sucks why isnt a recall about this an the broken bolts from headers they ram should really step it up with putting better parts on these trucks my truck has 59k bearly an i think i got cam an lifter problems an limited on cash to fix 2012 ram 1500

I had the same issues on a 2010 dodge ram, upon further inspection I found that the lifter had failed. The roller on the lifter was ground down in different spots all over and the cam lobe was ground down so bad. The lifters roller wouldn’t spin by hand and the cam was screwed

I got the Same thing going on with mine right now. Cylinder 5 I haven't checked it yet but I will soon as I get a chance

My charger doing the same thing misfire cylinder 3 changed the coil spark plugs and injectors

I gotta misfire but it’s only at high rpm’s it starts to sound really weird like a clapping noise any solutions??

I truly believe a lot of these failures could be prevented if people just changed their oil every 3-4k instead of going by the oil life meters in these trucks.

As a engine builder and mechanic. It blows my mind how the manufacturers keep turning them out year after year while they are knowingly failing left and right. I think the best answer is buy a toyota p/u.

Mine is ticking but havent had any performance or engine codes.
Both manifolds have been recently replaced. Not sure if I should do anything about it currently or not. Been changing the oil every 5k since I bought the truck and it hasnt seemed to get any worse over the past year.

Its a lifter problem dodge decided to go with needle bearing lifters plus need a hellcat oil pump to put more out more volume of oil to engine
