This song is my childhood. I’m 52 and still feel the pain of having an absent father and a detached mother. Growing up with violence and neglect. Living in fear as a child creates a lifetime of pain and resentment. To all the parents…. Just love your kids. Give them your time and love.

It's crazy to think that when they first released this song it didn't even make it into the top 50... They re-released it a year later and it got to number 2 in the UK and number 1 in the US... Just shows you life is all about timing and keeping going..

This song...was my life...and in someway...was an instrument of healing God used in order for me to SEE MY LIFE & grieve over what was never there...AND because HE was not in my parents lives...made me realize what THEY were incapable of giving...incapable of loving...and incapable of forgiving each other... my childhood was horrible... but GOD!! HE STEPPED IN and gave me beauty for ashes! Thank you Jesus!! Ro 10:9-10. & "forgetting" those things that are behilnd...(how they harmed you & not continuing to LIVE in the past) & pressing forward to the "mark" of the high calling in Christ Jesus!

Countless millions, maybe billions of lives can be summed up in these verses...I'm so grateful for "Simply Red" & for these simple...yet so profound versus!🥰 Thank you for this upload, now I can smile...because I DID keep holding on! GOD IS GOOD!!

My Mother found this song and it's lyrics resonated in her after first her fiance died, then her mother and then her father all in 1 horrible year...my mother passed away a week ago, and I now can feel the lyrics like she did .

Yeah today would of been my wedding anniversary 12 years this song seems so appropriate I wasted all those tears wasted all those years she walked out on me 3 years ago not that I was abusive or cheated or was a druggie, I simply lost my job and the money I had ran out it was too much for her to handle having to support the two of us. I would of never done her that I would respected my vows for richer and for poorer...I feel bitter really let down but it's life I get up and dust myself and face another
