Creating functions in Arduino

Hi, what if the code that you want to create as a function requires some kind of initial code that comes before the setup function? would you keep that bit of code or delete it along with the setup function? For instance there is code such as "byte rawData[LENGTH];" or some integers initiations? Would I just copy those into the new sketch prior to where void setup is? Thanks

How can you play the song from beginning every time the function is called. It plays from where it was stoped from last call.
