A deep dive into the journey of Amity Blight's emotional journey in The Owl House! Her character arc has always been one of the fans' favorites and there's definitely a lot to talk about, whether it be her relationship with Odalia and the rest of her family, her friendship with Willow or Luz's impact on her character growth! I did my best to cover the most important aspects of Amity's arc and to analyze and explain what makes her such a compelling and iconic character.

Enjoy!

What did you guys think about Amity's character arc? 🤔

I LOVE how the Owl House beautifully sidesteps the oft problematic “defrosting the ice queen” trope. Amity never becomes a project for Luz or in any way Luz’s responsibility. Amity isn’t dragged into growth kicking and screaming; she *chooses* growth. She always wanted to be a good person; she just needed an example. Luz isn’t her therapist; she’s her aspirational figure. I wish we saw more of this kind of arc in media.

Amity was always a good and kind person. She just needed a reason to demonstrate it.

Another thing I'd like to add is that forgiveness is never a complete excusale. It takes time to heal, no matter what. And just bc they accepted your apology doesn't mean everything goes back to normal or that you're allowed to do it again. Forgiveness is never an obligation. Forgiving someone should be your choice for your own benefit, not the other person or anyone else's.
It took me a long time to come to that bc I had so many people going "oh just forgive and forget" and "geez you sure hold a grudge" Things aren't always that simple.

I really like Amity's arc and I love that the show doesn't expect her to forgive her mother or even try to make her mother forgivable. As someone who went no contact with my own abusive mother until the day she passed, it was nice to see that decision validated by a character that I really like. If this show had been around when I was younger, I probably would have cut her off much sooner than I did.

Thats pretty much my interpretation of Amity.
Luz was the catalyst for Amity to start her path forward, but the change and growth were always her own.

Amity is one of my favourite characters ever, her arc and the way it shows how your family trauma can influence you and that it's possible to break the circle, but it's not easy, it's not a linear process, and it requires a lot of support from those around you ❤ love love love

I just got into owl house a few days ago, and it’s heartwarming that almost a year and a half later there’s still content made on it, I’m glad to see others love this show as much as I do, and that I don’t miss out on interacting with others about it because I got into it a little late

yeah, I really liked when Amity said "They make me think about the kind of person I really want to be!" I relate to that, now that I am adult I have more choice over my friends.

Really liked your video. I've saw some people saing that Amity's arc doesn't make sense because she had no reason for bully Willow at the start, but I liked your point of view, it really makes sense

I loved it because it perfectly demonstrates the Social Learning Theory. Children learn by observing the people around them.

33:22 There was an even more disgusting version of this in some churches where the survival is put on the spot to forgive the pastor who sexually abused them.
Honestly I feel like the Blight Family dynamics is an Evolution of this kind of "anit-redemption arc" from the Southern Raiders episode of Avatar, interesting enough Mae Whitman plays a character in both of those situations, particularly the character who was wronged, where Katara does not forgive the man who killed her mother unnecessarily no less. Forgiveness can only go so far and it is a CHOICE.
46:40 Going back to Avatar, Zuko shows another very good example of this, the crossroads of destiny was definitely the hardest to watch for a lot of us, because of Zuko's betrayal but it is an honest illustration of how ugly transformations and redemptions can get.
