Close Watch Lyrics:
Never win and never lose
There's nothing much to choose
Between the right and wrong
Nothing lost and nothing gained
Still things aren't quite the same
Between you and me

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine

I still hear your voice at night
When I turn out the light
And try to settle down
But there's nothing I can do
'Cause I can't live without you
Any way at all

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep a close watch on this heart of mine

Tick tock

Oh I'm sure
No harm will come to you no more
'Cause I find myself in your hands
Don't you be so hard on yourself

Oh oh ooh ooh

I still hear your voice at night,
When I turn out the light,
And try to settle down...

Funny, stopped October Gale for the same reason... Amazing song. Haunting, beautiful. Feel like I discovered a treasure.

This song is so beautiful: it's sad and happy at the same time, it's light and darkness, sorrow and love; Agnes' voice is full of feeling and it's soft and breathy like an angel. This singer and songwriter is magnificent and sublime. I love her.

Watched October Gale and when she was on the boat in the beginning of the movie. I was paying attention to this song more than the movie lol! I have never heard this girl but I really like this song. Props to the person that used this song in the movie!

I didn't know you until last week, when I heard "Riverside" for the first time on Spotify. I totally loved it, so I wanted to hear more songs from you and I'm not disappointed at all! I'm in love with your work!

The hairs are rising up on my arms, hearing this. Especially the bridge(or what its called) towards the end.

Amazing arrangement, chord progression, atmosphere, and of course singing! Another testament to how powerful minor progressions and chord breaks really are.

To my beloved William. I dedicate this song to you. It makes me cry everytime I hear it since you died. you loved me through cancer; I survived and you died. I don't understand why. I wish God would give me cancer again so I could be in Heaven with you. I will love you always. Love, Mia

This song was written by John Cale from his 1975 album Helen Of Troy.  Another version is on his Music For a New Society, 1982.

The only other non-original song in this album is Katie Cruel, known since the US War of Independence. The best version is by Karen Dalton in 1971.

As a big follower of John Cale, I was surprised to get to the credits of the first episode of "The Investigation" (Danish mini series) and see his name come up in tiny print, having not noticed his voice in the programme. On closer inspection, I see that this version was used - I've not heard of Agnes Obel before but she did a nice job with this great song. I'll watch the episode again tomorrow night and try to spot it!

As I'm rewatching the Lost Girl series, I can't believe I didn't check this song out, 11 years ago. I definitely wasn't in a good place back then, for sure, as my mental state was all over the place and didn't pay attention to a lot of things. The vibe and lyrics of this song really fit with what I was going through those years ago. I really let my focus shift. 😅 Anywho, fast forward to now, I'm really glad that I'm checking this one out. Amazing song. 🙌 Gonna dig through her discography. 😎
