US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller was asked whether the US efforts to press Israel to allow aid into Gaza are having an impact.

He answered, “The government of Israel tells us, as they say publicly, that they want to ensure that aid gets to those who need it. But ultimately, as you’ve heard us say when it comes to other matters, it’s the results that matter, not the intent. And right now not enough aid is getting in and not enough aid is getting distributed, and that needs to change.”

He has spent months speaking for Israel, now all of a sudden he doesn't want to speak for Israel.

Where are the US aid trucks that could get aid in safely and in sufficient quantities? Instead, the US continues to supply the bombs and missiles being used for the brutal military campaign on a defenseless Palestinian civilian population. It has repeatedly vetoed UN ceasefire calls and has also cut off its funding to UNWRA for humanitarian relief in Gaza. Surely this is not helping the the current desperate situation nor indeed the preservation of international order, justice and human rights?

He's always extremely vague when it comes to Israel's crimes and very clear when it comes to Israel's allegations of crimes by others.

And if it doesn’t change… then Matthew Miller will say something like “We can’t force X to do according to what we want because they’re a sovereign country”?

His only concret answer is always "let's not forget the Oct 7, all started because Hamas" and now Israel can do whatever they want.

I suspect that Matt Miller will one day end up like Robert McNamara- a tortured soul who had much blood on his hands as a result of his lies in escalating the Vietnam War and his support for Pinochet in Chile. McNamara went to Vietnam sometime after the end of the war in an attempt to cleanse himself a la Lady McBeth. As is often the case, in his meeting with Gen Giap, McNamara was a pompous, arrogant Berkeley Hunt, without a trace of humility while Gen Giap was calm and dignified. Of course these are not half of McNamara’s crimes. The dark lonely nights of the soul are ahead of you Matt.
