My priest at my old church told me that black was only for mourning when I showed up to Mass wearing a black veil. And white or cream colour was fine for married women. Now where I go to church, pastels are popular with the unmarried ladies. Black is popular for everyone married or not at church. I wear black even though no-one died, but for personal reasons not related to style or preference.
I also like solid veils that tie under my head because they stay in place with only a couple of hair clips.

As a married woman I traditionally wear darker colors (never white) and use black for occasions like funeral masses. I have unmarried friends who usually wear white and sometimes a light color for saints days and Easter!

My mother wears a black veil and my little sister(she's 5) wears a white veil. I have seen little girls wear light blue veils, pink veils and other colors of veils at my FSSP shrine in baltimore.

All of mine are various colors except one is white with flowers. I tend to match mine to whatever I am wearing. I am married and never thought of buying an all white one.
