The Plight of the Refugee: an Animated Film by Kien N.

How do we integrate into a world of different ethnic groups? Our Changemaker students sought to answer this driving question during the 2017-18 school year, leaning on their interactions with the peoples and places they encountered to create an evidence-backed personal project.

One student, Kien N., created this short animated film using Videoscribe and Final Cut Pro about an asylum seeker as his personal project. The film tells the tale of a Syrian who sails across the Mediterranean Sea to a Greek island to seek refugee status, but the poor condition of the refugee camp and the conflict with the local villagers of the island make him travel again to Spain to reside illegally in hopes of a better future.

He then befriends a Spaniard and tells him his story; however, the refugee faces legal challenges and may face deportation. The Spaniard feel compelled to fight for the refugee’s rights and later he helps other asylum seekers.
