BOW-DRILL 101

Getting in some bow-drill practice.
Selection of wood is crucial as some woods work better than others. I like to use same wood as spindle and firewood aka hearth. I suggest not only same type of wood but from the same limb where as you get the same stage of decay. This way I believe you get more friction. If I use a hard wood spindle on a softwood fire board it just drills through. Likewise a soft spindle on a hardwood fire board just wears down the spindle too much. But at the same hardness more friction is achieved.
