57 and post menopause. Active all my life, even competed in NPC Figure age 42-47, then menopause hit at 52. I changed nothing in my routine (still lifted 5x week, cardio and healthy nutrition-high protein). I still put on 20 lbs and gained it in places I NEVER had body fat-stomach, arms, back. Wasn’t until I went on HRT that everything changed!!

I was training for Tough Mudder, the swim portion of an Ironman and Oxfam Trailwalker(100km in 48hours event). No change in diet. Gained 10kg when menopause hit.

Estrogen functions as an anti inflammatory . Lower Estrogen would lead to higher inflammation, theres studies that show inflammation impedes weight loss..

Did I hear this correctly? Dr. Lyon, did you say maybe it's just "aging" that is causing all this unexplained weight gain for menopausal women? That seems pretty defeatist. How do you explain weight gain for those women who do lift heavy, eat protein-forward diet and basically followed a protocol similar to yours through peri and post menopause and still gain a lot of weight? [40+ pounds] That 6-7 year period was the same as the prior decade, so no, there was no slowing down for me anyway. I was on a team and if anything, the workouts got harder, not easier.

This wasn’t very helpful. What they say is repetitive with no real solution. Wegovy it is. 😊
