Milwaukee Shockwave IMPACT DUTY Drill Bit Set Review

I needed some drill bits suitable for drilling structural steel. Since I am very happy with my Milwaukee black oxide drill bits for general drilling (wood, plastic, soft metal) I decided to get this Milwaukee titanium nitride set for steel. In this video I go over the drill bits and then test them in my corded drill and impact driver.

I learned in my training that you should drill metal at a low speed and with even pressure.

As a machinist, I see the same mistake over and over again: running the drill bit way too fast. I watched a guy once trying to drill a 3/8" hole in mild steel using an electric drill. He was running is at a high RPM and because it wasn't cutting, he was practically "standing" on the drill to try and make it cut. When he walked away, I went over and saw that the tip of the drill bit was purple and the tip all rounded over. I just move along because he didn't ask you advice so I didn't bother offering it. about ten minutes later, he was back at it trying to burn a hole through the steel plate with the same drill. Slow the drill bits down or burn them out.

No cutting oil? I know these are impact rated bits but how does that work when cutting metal really? You went pretty quick on that first hole
