Another thing to get is the mesh laundry bags. They are a pretty large size. I use them over my blueberry and raspberry plants, Drape it over a frame of some sort (like a wood frame or a tomato cage) to protect your fruit from being eaten by the birds. Easy to pull up or off, doesn’t impede sunlight and works great

The wire trash baskets can also be placed in the planting hole to help prevent moles or other underground critters from getting to your plants roots. Roots can still grow through rhe wire mesh.

For those of us without drills/tools...You can also use the lids from parmesan and some other spices for shakers they fit a lot of jars, surprisingly!

Good ideas. I used the $$ laundry baskets, which are pretty flimsy for holding actual clothing, over my squash and brassicas. The deer and the rabbits left my plants alone and the neighbours had lots of interesting ideas about what I was doing with laundry baskets all over my front yard. 😂 Loved it!

I get shower caps from hotels…my friends who travel know to grab them for me. For plant tags I cut along the length of yogurt and cottage cheese containers and make them into strips. I cut the bottoms of milk jugs or use big clear spinach or lettuce containers for mini greenhouses.

recycle parm cheese containers are great for storing fertilizers and shaking.

Good ideas. A suggestion on making holes — get a cheap soldering iron to make the holes. Depending on the type of plastic, it can shatter and make not so nice holes. I had that happen to me, so now I use a soldering iron.

I use Popsicle sticks for plant labels they are biodegradable and break down over the winter!!

The wire basket would be good for sifting small compost piles too.

For the showercap hack I prefer to use a rubberband, which can also be aquired at dollar tree. Then you can remove them more easily and the moisture wont affect the adhesion of the tape.

My IPhone updated and I lost following your site. I am delighted to rejoin. I was hit very hard with fungus gnats. I thought I did everything right and my seedlings were wiped out. I felt like a burglar came in my home. My mother was a great gardener she’d cook her soil before planting. She dealt with cutworms. She was dealing with soil planting and more space than my patio garden.
I am starting my patio garden late because I have been I’ll. My MS has been unkind. For me it’s been a blessing. I found your site again. I have rejoined and look forward to what your doing. Thank for your guidance and bless you.

Dollar Tree also has small black wire pencil holders (in the school supply section) that look exactly like the black wire trash cans. Those are good to put over individual small plants with a couple of garden staples and they will keep squirrels and rabbits off your plants when they are tiny or small.
