not only did he play superbly. but looked so elegant while doing so. the choice of shots in his repertoire, the slice, the backhand and even, much to my surprise, his serve. was simply brilliant. the way he beat greikspoor as well as Dimitrov was truly special.

Im always impressed by how good evan's serve is for his height. 5'9" and he isnt rippling with muscles either. Winning a 500 at 33 smh. He really shows us rec players that we have no excuses.

Some of those points were insane. Plenty of times there was only 1 narrow opening or extremely high level shot available to win the point & he was pulling it off. Not too many guys out there with all the tools in his game

Evans is a perfect example of how talent and match intellect can beat big hitting ball strikers. His court craft is truly world class, if he were 6' plus he would have won majors, maybe his lack of discipline and dedication when he was in his early 20s held him back too.

Why do you think Federer and Djokovic routinely defeated serve bots? For the same reason, superior talent and amazing court craft.

Dan Evans is way more interesting to watch than most top players because you never know what he's going to do next. He didn't allow Griekspoor to play his game. Those beautiful knifed slices, especially to his backhand, made Griekspoor play the game Evans wanted and destroyed his self-belief. It isn't easy to drive a ball hard that keeps low and drifts across your body and as Evans showed, he can stay in that sort of rally for many shots without breaking down.

Griekspoor could have won if his first serve % was 80+ and he hit every winner. But he didn't and Evans did everything right apart from a few poor drop shots.

I suspect few on tour want to play Evans because they fiind his game so frustrating and won't allow them to find their rhythm. Only players like Alcaraz and Djokovic will outplay him with relative ease, though remember Evans beat Djokovic a few years ago.

Well done Dan, excellent intelligent tennis and a warrior mentality.
