Your series helps me a ton when it comes to actually understanding how sound design works in detail. Like the filter + downsample trick. Phenomenal series.

Awesome material! I've been a musician for 25 years but only recently got into sound design and the physicist in me loves seeing how the stuff I learned in college applies to music. If only I made the connection back then.

I've always wondered why there was 44.1k and 48k! It really felt like splitting hairs but now it makes perfect sense.

* If you tune the frequencies just right so that the ratio of sample rate to fundamental os an integer, the aliasing is inaudible because the frequencies that it creates are perfectly aligned with the harmonics.

where did you find information about the TR 909 having only 6 bits? i thought some of it was analogue, like part of the kick drum for example?

Nice tutorial, man! btw I have simple question.
is Lo-fi(Low fidelity) as same as bit crusher? i guess it is same like Sample rate reduction.
much appreciated!

Sample depth reduction placed after the SVF looks like a cheap extra parameter for my synthesizer.

Realized a bit crush effect on a stereo signal can be seen in a space scope (y = left+right, x = left-right); check about 2 minutes 48 seconds into this video:
